Why do Calm use the Django Framework?
Django is known to be a strong and secure programming framework for building web and mobile applications when used in conjunction with Python programming language.
We use the Django Framework written in Python because it offers a rich library of diverse packages that save time and effort when coding and allows swift development of secure websites that scale easily to user load. Python is one of the most popular programming languages, which means that it is widely accessible for any new developers that join us as the Calm team grows even further.
Django isn’t size-specific, so it allows us to work on a project of any size, whether on large or small scale. This suits us immensely, as it means we never have to turn away a client that is in need of our help!
Don’t just take our word for it!
There are many other large, successful companies that think the same way as us, see below:
According to Instagram Engineers (2016, https://tinyurl.com/jfbuq4q), “Instagram currently features the world’s largest deployment of the Django web framework, which is written entirely in Python.”
The Onion Tech team (2010, https://tinyurl.com/ybsmvvnd) also stated that they “feel that [Python] is a vastly better designed language than PHP and of course any framework you're using is only as good as the language.” They went on to say, “...we switched over The Onion proper [to Django], and we're seeing immediate gains in speed, maintainability, and stability.”
Brandon L. Golm (Engineer at Eventbrite, 2014, https://tinyurl.com/y99wnbrg), claimed they made the move to Django because they “believed that in the long term, moving to a feature-rich framework with a vibrant community would be a huge help to productivity and hiring. We were right.” and also, “In the short-term, some of the immediate benefits of moving to Django were: unit-test framework; database model abstraction …; request middleware; URL routing; form building; python-based template language and i18n support.”
Yipit (2011, https://tinyurl.com/3q7sa5x) stated they had been using Django since its inception. They commented that “If it wasn’t for a modern framework like Django, we probably wouldn’t exist”.
Another member of the Django fan club is Open EdX (https://tinyurl.com/y8vgedb2). With their platform being a web based system that creates, delivers and analyses online courses on a huge scale, almost all server-side code is written in Python, with Django as their framework.
As you can see, Django and Python have been used in some iconic websites; Python has been described as a vastly better language than PHP and the Django framework provides many advantages.
Are you well-versed in the Django Framework and fluent in Python? We’re currently on the lookout to recruit some talented developers. Please get in touch by sending your CV and covering letter to email@example.com.
